Natural flooring is tough and affordable
Many people prefer natural flooring derived from renewable resources in preference to what they regard as somewhat characterless modern synthetic fibre carpets. Sisal, seagrass and coir flooring are three excellent examples.
Natural flooring is often cheaper than normal carpeting and among these, seagrass is the least expensive. Seagrass flooring is reasonably non-absorbent and hard and does not harbour much dust. Sisal resists static electricity and therefore does not attract dirt. Coir is extracted from the husk of the coconut palm; immature, white, fine coir is available, as well as the more traditional mature, tougher and brown coir. Multi-level loop carpets are usually berber carpets
Berber carpets hark back to the Berber tribe of North America, which was the first to adopt this particular weave. As such, berber refers to a weave and not a type of fibre.
However, berber carpets do tend to tend to have a chunky yarn. These carpets have a multi-level loop construction and often feature darker flecks on a lighter background. Berber carpets are normally made from wool, olefin or nylon, but can also be made from a combination of fibres. They exhibit high wear- and stain-resistance.
